A -Water-Lifeline
The water is
brought from
about 35 kms distance for
the city. And
in order to maintain the uninterrupted continuous flow
of this water every step of alertness is required. Perhaps
probably, this may be the only
unique example in the state
of Maharashtra where water is lifted from
such a long distance. Besides,
after due successful processing of
purification it is distributed
through the taps to
the houses in various stages; viz. From Mula Dam to
Vilad, then from Vilad to Nagapur; further from Nagapur to Vasant Tekadi (Hill) Reservoir and
subsequently to the houses of
the citizens.
Sanctioned in the year 1967
this Water Supply Scheme, was gradually developed in stage by stage,
according to the enhanced augmentation
of the population. This
water supply scheme is meant for
the supply of water to various villages, new villages & colonies included in the city,
as well as Industrial Estates, and
some part
of the Defense Area besides the supply to the city.
Care is being taken to
see that at
least 140 ltrs per head per
day water
is supplied, irrespective of any
adversity
whatsoever.
Formerly this Water supply Scheme was administered through Maharashtra Jeevan
Pradhikaran Department. Since 1st July, 1999 the Municipal Council took over the administration of the said Scheme. All the workers engated
in the Jeevan Pradhikaran were transferred to Municipality.
The capacity of
the Water
Purification Plant Centre, at Vilad is of
73 Million Litres. Today about 50.5
million litres
of water is supplied
to the city from this Plant is 24 hours.
